Bhubaneswar : The future of students undertaking the Under Graduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) courses in Odisha still hangs in balance as the State government now is waiting for Supreme Court’s directive with regard to proposed cancellation of the exams. The government had earlier appealed the Centre to not make the exams mandatory in view of the critical situation post rise in COVID-19 cases.

Speaking to media today, Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo said, “The hearing on the case relating to cancellation of final term UG and PG examinations is over. As sought by the Apex Court, several states had submitted written pleas against the UGC guidelines stating that the situation is not conducive to conduct the exams. Our next decision will be based on SC ruling, whichever way it goes.”

Two weeks back, Odisha Government had appeared in the Supreme Court in connection with the case expecting that it will uphold the decision of the State Government to cancel final term examinations. Hearing the case on August 18, the Court had reportedly reserved its judgment.
