As the devotees gear up for the Snana Purnima of the Trinity, we bring you a glimpse of the ritual held during auspicious ‘Nabakalebara’ in 2015.
Snana Purnima (Bathing Festival) of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra is annual event held prior to world-famous Rath Yatra (Car Festival). Deities are kept on a ‘Snana Bedi,’ where the ceremonial bathing rituals are performed. The deities take bath from 108 pitchers of religiously purified water.
It is a common belief that devotees are cleansed from all their sins if they see the deities on the day of ‘Snana Purnima.’
After the ceremonial bathing ritual, the deities are adorned in elephant’s gear, called the ‘Gajavesha.’
