Sambalpur: Prabhudutta Pradhan, the music composer of the famous folk number ‘Rangabati’ passed away in the wee hours of Monday. He was 75.
Prabhudutta started learning music three, but shot into fame with ‘Rangabati’ song recorded in 1975.
Though the world-famous song has been originally sung by Jitendra Haripal and Krishna Patel, several renditions have come up over the years.
As a tribute to the legend, we share some of the renditions of ‘Rangabati’ –
SONA MOHAPATRA –
Perhaps, the only rendition which was marred by controversies like none! Odia girl Sona Mohapatra along with composer Ram Sampath and Rituraj Mohanty had to face legal notice for presenting a version of it on the MTV Coke Studio in 2015. Check the video:
SAMUEL SINGH –
A Nigerian by birth, Samuel Singh is an internet sensation, whose rendition of Bollywood and folk Indians songs are a massive hit on YouTube. Samuel has been attracted to Indian music right from his childhood, but his interest developed more after his visit to the country in 2010 for medical purpose.
Looks like the famous singer Shaan couldn’t get enough of the melodious number and he too sang a few lines during the 150 years of celebration of Jajpur.
The music composer and singer sang the number during the inaugural ceremony of Asian Athletics Championships in 2017.
KAUN KITNEY PAANI MAIN
The movie starring Radhika Apte and Kunal Kapoor was a rage mainly because of a version of the song. Radhika looks pretty in the Sambalpuri saree.
There is nothing like the original one!
