Odisha CM Congratulates Archana Soreng For Being Inducted In UN Chief’s Advisory Group

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday congratulated Odia girl Archana Soreng for being chosen in UN Secretary-General’s Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change. “Glad to see our young leaders taking lead roles in combating climate crisis. Wish her best,” stated Patnaik in a tweet.

Soreng, a native of Sundergarh district, has been selected as one amongst seven members of Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change established by the Secretary-General of the United Nations as a part of UN Youth Strategy.

Announcing the advisory group, UN Secretary-General António Guterres had yesterday stated, “Young people are on the front lines of Climate Action, showing us what bold leadership looks like. That is why I am launching my Youth Advisory Group on climate change – to provide essential perspectives, ideas & solutions.”

The UN in an official statement mentioned, “Archana Soreng (India) is experienced in advocacy and research, and she is working to document, preserve, and promote traditional knowledge and cultural practices of indigenous communities.”

The other members who have been selected to the group are, Nisreen Elsaim(Sudan), Ernest Gibson (Fiji), Vlaidslav Kaim (Moldova), Sophia Kianni (United States), Nathan Metenier (France) and Paloma Costa (Brazil).
