Mega Guardians’ Meet held at KISS

Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) organized a Mega Guardians’ Meet December 29. More than one lakh tribal people including 60,000 parents and guardians of students of the KISS, 27,000 students and 10 thousand alumni attended the meet. Assembly of such a large number of tribals representing 62 tribes and 13 primitive tribal communities from all corners of Odisha and some other states like Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Assam, is widely regarded one of its kind.

Like every year, KISS authorities made elaborate arrangements, including food, lodging and transport to host the parents in this mega assembly. They expressed their profound gratitude to Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS for securing the future of their children through KISS, which provides education from KG to PG, vocational training, food, accommodation and all other basic necessities of life absolutely free of cost to 27,000 tribal children. Guardians were satisfied to see that their children are getting education and care at par with any good public school in a beautiful environment. Earlier in the morning the alumni meet held where more than 10 000 alumni got a chance for get together.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Samanta advised the parents and guardians that only education can ensure a dignified life to them, as the traditional way of living is gradually becoming impossible due to denudation of natural resources with the passage of time. The 37000 students including 10000 alumni of KISS have now become the change makers of their community, he added.

Routaray, CEO, KISS; Prof. H K Satapathy, VC, KISS Deemed to be University, Sri Julios Lakra, Registrar, KISS Deemed University; Dr. Sasmita Samanta, Registrar, KIIT Deemed to be University; Dr. P. K. Das, Livelihood Director, KISS and Niranjan Bisi, Secretary General, Western Odisha Adivasi Mahasabha cum guardians’ representative also spoke on the occasion.
