Bhubaneswar: BJD MP from Kendrapara Baijayant Panda resigned from BJD, months after he was suspended from the party.
In a three –page letter to Chief Minister Naveem Patnaik, Baijayant Panda wrote, ““It was with deep anguish, hurt and sorrow that I have decided to quit the kind of politics into which our BJD has descended.”’
“I was heartbroken when several BJD colleagues conveyed that they had been restrained from coming by to pay their last respects to the departed soul. That the BJD does not want me anymore, and in fact wants me out, is now irrefutably clear. I have stoically borne many humiliations over the past four years, but this is the last straw, it is now beyond my self-respect to continue to be associated with the party in an atmosphere as mean minded as this,” he mentioned.
While the decision has raised political heat in the state, here is what different politicians reacted –
Dharmendra Pradhan, BJP (On Whether Panda Will Join BJP)
“All good people who accept the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and part President Amit Shah, are welcome into the BJP.”
Debi Prasad Mishra, BJD
“BJD would refrain from making any political comments in the wake of the demise of Dr. Bansidhar Panda (Baijayant Panda’s father). Response will be given at the right time.”
Sarat Rout, Congress
“Baijayant Panda is a good Parliamentarian. After this, BJD will be weakened.”
Pitambar Acharya, BJP
@PandaJay ‘s decision is timely. Right minded people have lost faith on @Naveen_Odisha who has passed on leadership to the hands of a few bureaucrats headed by a non Odia
